We are excited to share an important update that will help ensure all students in our District have access to nutritious meals. The District offers qualifying students free and reduced-price breakfasts and lunches in line with state laws.
On Tuesday, November 12th, the Douglas Board of Education (BOE) approved Policy EFB regarding Reduced-Price Meal Costs. Effective starting Wednesday, November 13th, the District will be waiving the cost of meals for students who qualify for reduced mealsPar based on your Free & Reduced Meal Application. In essence, a reduced status is now treated as a free status.
This policy, which is reviewed annually, reflects our commitment to supporting the well-being and success of all students. Thank you for your continued partnership in our mission to provide everyone with a healthy and supportive learning environment.
If you are a family who has already filled out the paperwork to qualify for Free & Reduced Meals, we thank you. No further steps are necessary. Any meals for families who previously qualified for reduced meals have already been waived, any balances have been eliminated, and your child(ren) will continue to receive free meals for the remainder of the school year.
If you are a family who has not already filled out the paperwork to qualify for Free & Reduced Meals, we are asking you to please do so now. Applications can be found on your Parent Portal under “More,” then “Meal Benefits”. You can then proceed with the application. We have included a link here with FAQ: Free & Reduced FAQ Not only might this application give your family the opportunity for free meals all year; it also helps you and the District in several other ways.
