Douglas High School will host the annual Freshman Impact program today, October 2nd. Emergency response vehicles, law enforcement officers, and potentially a helicopter will be present on campus throughout the day. These are part of a volunteer effort by the law enforcement community to educate our students.
Freshman Impact is a one-day program aimed at saving teen lives through interactive, preventative education. Through hands-on activities, students will witness the consequences of poor choices and their lasting physical and emotional impacts on themselves, their families, and their community. The program fosters communication between youth and law enforcement, fire, and rescue personnel.
By bringing together local, county, state, and federal resources, Freshman Impact educates students, parents, and school staff about destructive teen behaviors and their consequences. It also serves as inter-departmental training for emergency personnel, enhancing teamwork and community relations. Together, everyone works to help teens make safe choices and build the lifelong skills needed for responsible decision-making.
