Douglas School District Welcomes Tim Kosters as Executive Director of Operational Support Services
BOX ELDER, SD: The Douglas School District is excited to introduce Tim Kosters as our new Executive Director of Operational Support Services. He succeeds Bud Gusso, who retired after over 25 years of dedicated service to the district. Tim's extensive background in education and leadership makes him a valuable addition to our team.
Tim's career in education spans over two decades. He began as an Elementary Teacher in the Mobridge School District from July 1998 to May 2004, where he designed and delivered engaging lessons for 2nd and 4th grades, incorporated diverse teaching methodologies to improve student outcomes, and coached middle and high school sports, including football, basketball, track, and golf.
Since July 1, 2004, Tim has served as the Elementary Principal at Lead-Deadwood School District. He oversaw administrative functions, including curriculum development, staff management, and student welfare, resulting in the implementation of a district-wide Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) program. Tim also implemented innovative programs to enhance student engagement and academic performance and led his team through the challenges of a worldwide pandemic while their elementary building was being remodeled.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Kansas State University and a Master of Science in Education Leadership and Administration from Northern State University. His skills include addressing issues related to safe school operations, creating collaborative working environments, establishing intricate MTSS models, and identifying and implementing practices for staff and student success. He is also proficient in educational leadership, curriculum development, staff management, student engagement strategies, interdisciplinary teaching approaches, organizational and time management, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
In addition to his professional experience, Tim has received numerous awards and has held several leadership roles. He served as President of the West River Association of Elementary School Principals, South Dakota Association of Elementary School Principals and School Administrators of South Dakota. He is a Desert Storm Veteran, having served in the US Army from 1990 to 1992 as an M1A1 Armor Crewman. His accolades include being named the 2012 NAESP National Distinguished Principal and the 2012 SDAESP Outstanding Administrator. Tim has also served as the NAESP Zone 7 Director, representing principals from multiple states on a national Board of Directors.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Tim. We are thrilled to have him on board and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our District.
