Dear DSD Families,
Beginning September 13th, families who currently qualify for reduced school meals, will receive them free of charge. This policy change will ensure that more students have access to nutritious meals. Providing free school meals can help alleviate the burden of food insecurity and promote better learning outcomes, as students are better able to concentrate and engage in their studies when they have access to proper nutrition.
We encourage families to fill out a free and reduced meal application as soon as possible, even if they think they may not qualify. In addition to receiving free meals, the free and reduced meal application is also used to determine increased funding support for other student needs such as access to additional funding for technology & Internet access, discounts and fees associated with the college application process, scholarship opportunities and more.
Free and Reduced Priced Applications are available on the parent portal under “more” and “meal benefits.” Paper applications are available in all school offices and in the Food Service Office. Parents/guardians with questions about this change can contact Jennifer Garner at (605)923-0056.
